Mortal Acceptance

Dear child: There comes a time when we must relent When we must cast our dreams into the fervent wind, Like daffodils, to sprout on earth more fertile than our own When we must set brittle bones to old wood And watch, from afar, the world give birth and kill To watch all things new become frail again When we must embrace all that we love, knowing That their time will soon come to pass and, in turn, Embrace the difficult acceptance of our own Young child: Heed my words and do not aspire for wealth Nor useless material items that prove so Wrap yourself in the very fabric of life and truly live! For the greatest regret we could ever know Is living a life of ignorance and flippancy, only to Realize there is no other life beyond this. -ELS
